Accelerated Reading

At Harmony Primary School we aim to foster a life-long love of reading. We are passionate about developing a reading culture where students read for pleasure, as we know that reading impacts their access to all areas of the curriculum. This love of reading is nurtured through a wide variety of reading materials, parental support and Accelerated Reading experiences. Accelerated Reader helps us to monitor children’s reading habits and also allows us to identify children who may need additional support with their reading.

Children’s reading comprehension skills are baselined once every half term using Star Reading alongside other termly assessment processes. Children are given their AR score and use this as a guide to select their books.

We celebrate AR success each month when we hold a prize draw for 100% quizzers in assembly.

At our termly AR celebration assembly, the child from each class who has made the greatest progress in the Star Reading assessment wins a prize. In addition, children who have read a total of ¼ million, ½ million, ¾ million and 1 million words or more are presented with a prize and a certificate of achievement.

Well done to our amazing AR winners for September! We are so proud of all of you!
