About Us

The nursery is an integral part of Harmony Primary School, and it is located on the same site. We are a full-time dual nursery unit with 2 classes of 26 children. The nursery day runs from 9am-1.30pm.  Children eat school meals as part of their nursery day, and this is an important teaching time. Harmony Nursery provides a happy, secure environment where children can develop at their own rate through challenging and progressive play.

We really value the partnership between home and school and build upon each child’s previous learning experiences. In June, we welcome our parents and children with a visit to the nursery. This is followed up by a home visit in late August, where we get to know the child and their family and find out what is important to them.

We maintain regular contact with parents through Seesaw and have settling in interviews in October and in March. We also make connections with parents through events such as our Big Bedtime Read and other celebrations like our Christmas play and graduation. Parents of nursery children are also encouraged to become part of the whole school community by joining the Parents and Friends group and Friends of the Forest.

Harmony Nursery Unit is a controlled nursery unit. It caters for 52 preschool children across two full-time classes. The nursery has a dedicated building on the grounds of Harmony Primary School.

The nursery building consists of two cosy but spacious playrooms with their own bathroom areas, two-story rooms, a shared entrance hall with a cloakroom and a large outdoor space with a bicycle track, messy area with a mud kitchen, digging pits and vegetable garden, a covered soft surface area and a beautiful playhouse in addition to access to the school’s wonderful forest school area.

Harmony Nursery follows the curriculum that is outlined in the Department of Education N.I. Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education. Our curriculum is delivered through play. Through planning, nurturing support, careful observation and record keeping, we aim to provide a rich variety of stimulating play experiences, where the children are challenged, and their learning is extended to the six areas of learning:

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  2. Language Development
  3. Physical Development and Movement
  4. The Arts
  5. Early Maths
  6. The World Around Us

The children will participate in play activities, which are planned in line with the curriculum and work to develop a range of skills. To help to keep you informed about nursery life, we send home regular news and post updates and photos regularly on our app Seesaw. These will provide you with key dates, information and an insight in to our current play.
